Meet Amani.
Amani is a farmer.
Every year, before the rains come, he starts preparing his farm.
He buys seed.
He buys fertilizer.
He pays for labor.
He works through the season, waiting for the harvest.
But one year, things don’t go as planned.
His child needs school fees.
There is food to buy.
The farm still needs inputs.
Amani needs money.
So he goes to the bank.
The bank asks him questions.
How much do you earn?
What is your income history?
What assets do you have?
Have you borrowed before?
Have you repaid your loans?
Amani has worked on that farm for years.
He has harvested crops every season.
He knows the land.
He knows the market.
He knows how to farm.
But the bank doesn’t know any of that.
And that matters.
Because when a bank gives you a loan, it is taking a risk.
It needs a way to know:
Can I trust this person to repay me?
For most people, that answer can come from a credit score.
A number built from their financial history.
But for Amani, that number may not exist.
So the bank says no.
And Amani finds someone else who will lend him the money.
He takes the loan before the harvest.
When harvest comes, he has to sell quickly.
Not because that is the best price.
But because someone is waiting for their money.
The profit disappears.
Next season comes.
He cannot afford enough inputs.
The harvest becomes smaller.
The income becomes smaller.
The next loan becomes harder.
And the cycle continues.
This is not just Amani’s story.
It is the story of millions of farmers across Africa.
The people who feed our families often struggle to finance their own.
Parents sell what they have to keep their children in school.
Farmers sell land because they need money today.
Good farmers miss good opportunities because they cannot access capital at the right time.
And sometimes, one difficult season can change an entire family’s future.
But imagine if it didn’t have to be this way.
Imagine if Amani’s years of farming could speak for him.
Imagine if the system could look at his work, his history, his farm, his production—and understand the farmer behind it.
Imagine if there was a credit score for farmers.
A simple way for a farmer who has spent years producing food to finally be recognized as someone who can be trusted with credit.
That is the problem we are solving.
So farmers can borrow when they need to.
Buy the inputs they need.
Grow their farms.
Keep their land.
Take their children to school.
And build a better life from the work they already do.
Because the farmer should not have to become something else to become creditworthy.
We just need a better way to see the farmer.
And this is bigger than one farmer.
It is about the kind of Africa we want to build.
Mwalimu Julius Nyerere spoke about the enemies of our people: poverty, ignorance, and disease.
Decades have passed.
We have made progress.
But we are still fighting.
And we cannot keep waiting for someone else to solve our problems.
We know our problems.
We live them.
So we must build the solutions.
For our farmers.
For our families.
For our food.
For our continent.
